Holistic Tuning
What Holistic Tuning Is
Two words: holistic and tuning.
The holistic part is the integration — conscious breathing, music and movement, and energy work brought together as one practice. These are my three areas of expertise, and what I learned over thirty years of teaching is that combining them creates something none of them produces alone.
The tuning part is what you actually feel. A way to release long-term holding patterns. A method to reduce tension and live easier. Something that gets you back into yourself when you've been somewhere else.
It's accessible without prior experience, and it's adaptable — you can do it in five minutes between meetings, or you can sink into a longer session. Whatever you need.
Why It Matters Right Now
We live in a tense culture. Stress and tension are everywhere, and there's nothing wrong with tension itself — you need to tense your muscles to react to things. That's how a body works.
The problem is when tension doesn't leave. When it builds up, day after day, and starts becoming the new normal. At some point that constant tension turns into anxiety, into panic, into reactiveness — into lashing out at people because you're just that tense.
Holistic Tuning is a method to release that tension and let it flow off your system. Not as a one-time fix, but as a skill you carry with you for the rest of your life.
How It Actually Works
Holistic Tuning is very physical. Today everyone is talking about somatic therapy — and while I don't call this a therapeutic method, it works in that territory. Movement, breath, body, energy all involved. You're not lying down talking about your problems. You're moving with them.
It's a step-by-step teaching process:
First, you learn the principles. Then we set up practice sessions where you work with yourself under my guidance. What you're really gaining is a tool — something you can reach for whenever you feel out of tune.
You know what out of tune feels like. Not quite with it. Not sure what your next step is. Tension in the body. The day-to-day stuff most people just live with. This work helps you reduce that tension, and more importantly, do it on your own for the rest of your life.
Once you learn the skill, you can apply it whenever you want.
How It Helps With Anxiety
I'm often asked how this work helps with anxiety. The answer surprises some people.
Holistic Tuning helps because it makes you friends with something you've had your whole life — your breath, your movement, your sensation of energy flowing through your system. You may not have learned how to interpret these in the right way, but they've always been there.
What I'm teaching isn't something I'm adding to you. It's confirming what's already with you.
When you learn to move your awareness into the qualities that are always present — breath, movement, energy — you start living a little more from them. And these are forces of nature. Dimensions you actually live in. As you open them up, you relax. You find a resting place inside yourself that you can revisit anytime.
Gradually, you get empowered. I like the word agency. You develop inner agency to handle your inner world.
I always value that over treating someone. I see myself as a coach. I teach you a way to handle yourself that empowers you. And the more you learn the skill, the more you can handle anything that comes up — anxiety, nervousness before something important, or a full life-changing situation that's so massive you need a lot of help.
It scales to any level.
How I Developed This
It's been thirdy years in the making, and it started with an idea I had early in my life that I tested over and over — first with myself, then with an increasing number of people. Hundreds of weekend seminars. Thousands of individual sessions. The skill honed by use.
When you develop something new, you don't have a teacher for it. When I started, I didn't even have the words. I came from music and rhythm, and from there into conscious breathing — and I owe a lot to the teachers who taught me each piece. For most of those years I was using their teachings, holding the parts side by side, letting them gel.
Some elements took me a couple of decades to clear up enough that I could formulate my own way of seeing them.
It's been a long journey. It's my life's work.
The Three Currents
Holistic Tuning runs on three interconnected currents:
Breath
Conscious Adaptive Breathing is the foundation. To breathe consciously is an investigation — into the hidden parts of yourself, into the depth of who you actually are. Breath opens, heals, relaxes, and energizes us in countless ways. It is also the most reliable way I know to come back into your own body when you've been somewhere else.
Music
Rhythm and movement. Specific movements open the body layer by layer, from the physical to the most subtle. It is a form of fundamental, simple dance, a breath dance that tunes the whole system from the inside out. Through entrainment, life energy starts reorganizing itself. Given the right conditions, the body finds coherence on its own.
Voice and sound. Let your voice vibrate and tune your whole body in a way you have never felt before.Vocalizing in a group sharpens awareness of the energy body. The collective sound accelerates the process — the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts. No voice skills required. Discover your voice without fear.
Energy
Energy awareness. The flow of activated energy makes it easy to recognize our electromagnetic nature — just as real a part of our functionality as anything chemical or physiological. Becoming aware of this level gives us access to knowing what is actually happening in us, we learn that our bodies let us know what we need to pay attention to. Harmonizing this current supports us at our core.
Energy balancing. Sharpening inner awareness, learning to focus gently on specific areas within ourselves — balancing, harmonizing, healing. Islands of dense, painful contracted energy get integrated back into the flow, preventing symptom development and tension accumulation caused by aging.
Energy fields. Opening our perception perceiving fields is at the leading edge of human development. The amplification of the energy flow becomes powerfully tangible when we connect in geometric formations, usually circles, tuning to the energetic flow between and through us.
Gentle inquiry. Being with each other as space, as opening, as each other's guide to the truth of who we are.
What People Take Away
A deep release of long-held tension — the chronic kind that accumulates through stress-filled days and never quite leaves. Real rest. Recuperation that lasts.
The automatic inner dialogue quieting on its own, leaving clarity behind. The recognition that the body is more alive and more knowing than the thinking mind has been telling you.
For some, it goes further. A natural opening to the space they actually are. Being met — by themselves, by others in the room, by something larger than either. Inner peace as a present-moment fact rather than a future destination.
Here is what some of the people said about my work:
"Oh my goodness -- I can see and feel why breathing is so necessary. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this..." Teri
"Magnificent... energizing, filled with love and light. Thank you. I look forward to continuing 'breathing' with a deeper purpose." Patti
"After over a year of 'breathing' at Daniel's weekly seminars, I have a tremendously heightened awareness of myself and others as truly unifiable aspects of one great consciousness. As we breathe together we know ourselves as one Life. Also, I have physically expanded my ribcage and breathing capacity after years of constriction in a back brace. I highly recommend Holistic Tuning to deepen and expand our connections with each other and our knowing of ourselves." Carrie
"Holistic Tuning, brilliantly facilitated by Daniel Hirtz, has become an integral part of my life. Each session allows me to slip into more of a "groundedness" in my life. As I am moving and concentrating on my breathing speed & volume, I have no choice but to make conscious contacts with all parts of my body, usually integrating any uncomfortableness that may appear, just by continuing to breathe into it. I recommend regular Holistic Tuning sessions for anyone who can breathe." Danny
"The holistic tuning is extremely grounding, and I always experience bliss. I feel very present most of the time, and feel especially alive and energized. Daniel leads the group in a loving, gentle way, by guiding and experiential manner, that leads to a sense of oneness and love. I feel very safe and relaxed, and by encouraging everyone to keep their eyes open I can then release the initial desire to go inward completely and separately, but yet stay inward along with feeling connected to others at the same time. Daniel provides an atmosphere of acceptance, so that any mood or feeling that comes up is to be not only expressed, and felt, but exalted, not shamed." Naomi
"Holistic Tuning is a life-changing experience, but it is slow and steady - one breath at a time just like life. Each time I engage in this activity at one of Daniel's workshops I experience something new within me and within the group. It's an opportunity and a reminder to slow down and listen to life, to listen to the rhythm of my own breath and the rhythm each participants' breath. It is a time also to go within and allow my inner life to surface in a safe environment. I grew up in a violent home and have experienced flashbacks to these horrible childhood experiences during the breathing workshops. But with Daniel's gentle support and guidance, I was able to share this in a way that healed me and connected me more deeply to the group. My life would not be the same without these workshops. Daniel is a gifted guide in holistic tuning." Chris
